The Salt Lake Gulls were a minor league baseball team based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and competed in the Pacific Coast League throughout the 1970s. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Smith’s Ballpark, we paid tribute to the Gulls and their lasting impact on Salt Lake’s sports heritage.
I developed two distinct creative concepts to capture the spirit of the era. The first, “Summer of ’75,” imagined a sun-soaked throwback to a golden season of baseball — filled with retro textures, warm tones, and era-authentic type treatments. The second, “Swingin’ Back to the ’70s,” leaned into the fun, funky energy of the decade, channeling the grooves of 70s music, fashion, and design into a lively, fan-first campaign.
The visual identity included a commemorative poster displayed throughout the ballpark and a custom jersey design inspired by the Gulls’ original 1970s uniforms. I also created digital promotions, including social media graphics and Google ads, and designed a pennant flag that was handed out to fans as a limited-edition giveaway on game day.
